3 Types Of Dental Implants You May Want To Know?

3 Types Of Dental Implants You May Want To Know? After suffering from tooth loss, your general dentist may st may be advising you to have dental implants as a way to restore your teeth. It's beneficial to know the different types of dental implants and how they function. This will help you and the dentist make an appropriate decision on the correct choice. Here we will discuss the three most common types.

Endosteal Implants

These are dental restorations that work by inserting an implant into the jawbone. A rod made of titanium, which looks like a screw, is fitted into the jawbone to hold the artificial tooth crown. Endosteal implants are for individuals that have abundant bone to support the implant. The implant acts like the root of a tooth when placed inside the jaw.

Subperiosteal Implants

If the idea of having an operation done on your jawbone to clear out space for an implant to be inserted is scary, you might consider subperiosteal implants. If a dentist has checked and found your bone to have insufficient mass to hold the implant, you too would be a candidate for subperiosteal implants. These implants are mounted atop the jawbone and not inside it. The only place to be operated on are the gum tissues to open up space for the implant to be mounted on the jawbone. The soft tissue will then heal around the implant to strengthen it.

Zygomatic Implants

People with insufficient bone and who would rather avert undergoing bone grafting or sinus lift procedure can choose zygomatic implants. These implants are mounted on the cheekbones. They are longer than the other implants. It requires a dentist with vast experience in placing these implants to have them mounted successfully.
