Talking to an Oral Surgeon About a Cracked Tooth

If you suspect that you have a cracked tooth, you need to contact your oral surgeon. Some teeth become cracked completely, and they require extraction as they are separate pieces. Other teeth crack slightly, and are little more than a fracture that isn't going to heal.

Your oral surgeon is going to be able to tell you what type of crack you have and what treatment options you have. If the tooth is not fully cracked through, you may be able to salvage the tooth as long as you get it treated quickly.

Cracks in Your Teeth Can Be Fixed Some of the Time

When your tooth is in two separate pieces, there isn't going to be anything your oral surgeon can do aside from removing the tooth. When it cracks like that, it is detrimental to your mouth to keep it in there. However, if your tooth is only fractured, there are often treatment options.

One of the more common treatment options is to cap the tooth with a crown. This means that your dentist removes a bit of the outside of the tooth and puts a lid on the top of it to hold it in place. This protects the crack and it allows you to still have full functionality of the tooth. It also keeps the crack from getting worse or causing some type of an infection.

If you have a crack in your tooth, contact our office today. They can help you get your tooth fixed up, and they can let you know what the best options are for keeping your mouth healthy no matter what type of treatment you require. They are there to help you, so make sure that you let them know at the first sign that you may have a tooth that's cracked.
