How Long Do Wisdom Teeth Take to Come In?

Wisdom teeth are different than the other teeth in your mouth. They are considered your final set of molars, and typically come in during the late teens or very early twenties.

While some people go from having a painless smile to a painful one within a short period of time due to their wisdom teeth coming in, most people go through this process more slowly. Here are a few things to know about when your wisdom teeth come in.

Wisdom Teeth Follow Their Own Path

Typically, wisdom teeth come in fully from the beginning of their journey to being totally in place over 3-4 years. Normally, this process starts around the mid-teens, but you normally don't feel it for a while.

The teeth reside near the back of your mouth, and slowly shift into a vertical position. Then, when all things line up properly, they slide down into place at the very back of your mouth.

Wisdom teeth have specific routes they are supposed to follow, just like every other tooth we get. However, wisdom teeth don't always do what everyone plans. Sometimes they run into a problem, and have to create their own path.

This can be another tooth, or this can just be running into the end of the jaw bone. This means that they may mean to come in straight, but run into a problem. This can delay how long it takes for them to come in, too.

If you want to find out more about your wisdom teeth, or yours are not coming in the way you would like them to, give our office a call. We can have you come in, give you some x-rays, and tell you what we see going on. Contact us today and let us help!

If you have any questions or would like to schedule an appointment, please call us at (623) 412-0310 today.
