Pain in the jaw area can be uncomfortable. This is why it is important to speak with our dentists regarding treatments that can reduce the amount of pain you're feeling.

Oftentimes, this can become so painful that the patient does not want to talk or even move their jaw to eat. When this happens, something has to be done to reduce the pain and get the person back on track.

Starting the conversation about TMJ can be difficult at first, since you're unsure of what to say or how to say it. This is okay, just let your dentist know about it sooner, rather than later as the symptoms of TMJ can become worse with time.

Starting a Conversation about TMJ

Make an appointment in the office to see a dentist. While there, speak with them regarding the symptoms you're having. This is important. Bringing the topic of TMJ up can get them to look further into the issue and make you more comfortable.

They may run tests to determine the cause of the problem. Of course, sometimes it is harder to diagnose. Common treatment plans can include a mouth guard, physical therapy and even medications. This will reduce the pain the person is in, but may not solve the issue entirely.

It is not a serious issue, but it is one that can cause problems in everyday life. This is why it is important to speak with a professional sooner, rather than later about TMJ.
