 An impacted tooth can cause excruciating, moderate pain or no pain at all, but chances are you will have some symptoms to identify the condition. The most common surgery involving impacted teeth is wisdom teeth surgery. Early in your child's life, there will be signs he or she needs oral surgery to remove their wisdom teeth. This is due to not having enough room to welcome the wisdom teeth or because the tooth is coming in at a different angle, which can affect other adjacent teeth. Symptoms of an Impacted ToothWhen patients' wisdom teeth get stuck at the end of the jaw and don't erupt it can develop into an impacted tooth that needs to be extracted. Some of the signs you can watch out for to see if you have an impacted tooth are:
Not removing an impacted tooth can lead to complications such as an abscess or the spread of infection, so it is not worth letting it get that far. If you or your child have been referred to our office with an impacted tooth, we urge you to call us as soon as you can for a consultation. We will do a full set of X-rays to determine what the condition of the tooth is and if, in fact, it needs to be extracted.
