How Can You Tell if You Need a Sinus Lift?

Posted on 6/22/2020 by Dr. Michael Allard
How Can You Tell if You Need a Sinus Lift?People tend to lose their teeth for a whole host of reasons. Sometimes it can be due to an accident, dental problems or tooth decay. When this is done, the jawbone underneath isn't taking any nutrients to the teeth ort providing support for them. Because of this issue, we find that the body begins to resorb the bone into itself. As time passes, the bone shrinks by a large portion and the ever-growing sinus will then replace space left by the bone. In such a case, if you want to have any dental implants, it becomes a problem since you don't have anywhere the implants can securely be attached for longevity purposes. In such a case, the jawbone has to be regrown and thus enters the sinus lift. The sinus lift procedure involves surgery to add the missing bone to your upper jaw where the sinus membrane has to be shifted upwards to allow the bone to grow.

Who Is A Candidate For This Procedure?

The biggest reason to get a sinus lift is when your jawbone has been significantly eroded. This means that if you have less than 3-4m of the jawbone, you are a prime candidate. Since you can't make this determination yourself, you will have to consult us so that we can perform the necessary tests to determine the available length of the jawbone that's there. Another huge reason to get a sinus lift is when you have lost a couple of teeth due to one reason or the other. This might be because of a birth condition you are born with or a condition brought about by extraneous circumstances. In such a case, you'll find that you are missing several maxillary teeth and you need some dental implants.
Since this is no small procedure, you need a professional to take care of it because you will also need some follow-up since it needs about six months to heal completely and be able to support any dental implants you have in mind. If you have any questions about this procedure and how it's done, please do not hesitate to ask. We'll be happy to help.
