What are those things in the dentist's office?
Posted on 8/22/2022 by Dr. Michael Allard
If you have had a cleaning appointment with us, you have probably seen several devices that our hygienists use in the cleaning process. You may have been wondering what those instruments are at our offices. Stick around for a detailed description of each device.
Mouth mirror
A mouth mirror is a small circular mirror attached to a long handle. Our hygienists use this device to examine tight spaces in your mouth for tartar buildup. This device is also used to move your cheek and tongue in order to provide a clearer view of your teeth.
Saliva ejector
A saliva ejector is used to suck up your spit as our dentists work on your teeth. This device ensures your mouth is dry providing us with a better workspace.
Drill
A drill is used on patients who have cavities. Our experts use the drill to remove the area affected by tooth decay as they prepare the area for filling.
Scalers
We use scalers to remove plaque and tartar from your teeth. These devices are hooked to allow effective scrapping. The scrapping process is usually uncomfortable but the benefits are definitely worth it.
X-Ray machine
When you visit our practice for the first time, we will require an x-ray image of your teeth. The x-ray will allow our dentists to familiarize themselves with your dental formula and detect any potential dental problems that require immediate attention.
Our practice uses digital x-rays instead of regular ones. Digital x-rays emit lower levels of radiation making them safer to use. We use the latest technologies in our practice.
Now that you are familiar with the devices used on your teeth, there is no need to be frightened at your next appointment. Contact us to experience high-quality devices that facilitate faster and more accurate procedures.
